Ogg video (theora) support

Hi guys,

any plans to support the theora codec for ogg video files? Encoding might give us a nice embeddable video for web-based apps...

cheers

Hi Ben, I was just looking into this. It looks like we have to different paths here: support ogg files with latest theora and/or write a libquicktime plugin akin to the apple quicktime plugin for theora. I started to look at the second option since libquicktime already supports ogg (but we're definitely not compiling it with theora). I tested out theora and its pretty good compared to most h264 compressors.

So of the two: what would be the more desired path? Ogg container with theora or theora in quicktime?

If I'm right in thinking ogg containers are the format firefox 3.5 supports out of the box, then I can see that being pretty useful.

Not a high priority though.. just thought it might be a bit nicer than trying to play quicktimes through the mplayer plugin on linux firefox.

    thanks

We would really like the playback support atleast as this would be a fantastic format to use for various dailies movies.

Any update on Ogg support for RVIO ? Or recommendations for how to output ogg formats in the meantime.

    Hi Allan,

No sorry, nothing new on this front.  We're considering some large changes in the medium term in the way we interface with ffmpeg.  And these changes would probably bring ogg support, but nothing firmly scheduled yet.
