Avi, Mov, Mp4 not playing in demo

Hi folks,

first off, incredible player.

We have a question though, is it possible that the demo version doesn't do avi, quicktime or mp4? As we can't get it to work with any other media besides images.

cheers,

Sven

Hi Sven, we're still working on a solution to 64 bit quicktime on windows. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't support windows 64 so we have to find another way. Hopefully we'll have it working soon. Its a bit of a slow process. in the meantime, you can use the 32 bit windows version which can read and decode those files.

Yes, the QT problem i get, it's quite logical, but that doesn't explain the fact that avi files and mp4 files don't work.

Does the avi reader use system codecs? or does it use it's own library of hardcoded codecs?

I'll see what the 32 bit version does with those files just to be sure.

I should note that the avi files uses a codec that is supported both in 32 and 64 bit (Lagarith)

To answer your earlier question: RV uses QuickTime and installed codecs (on win32) to read avi files and mp4 files.  So if QuickTime player can play them, RV should be able to as well (on win32).  Win64 movie support is still in the works.

Ah, just tried the x86 version and it loads the movies, but, it shows a white screen rather than the content, but at least it doesn't produce an error. Haven't tested it thoroughly yet, so tomorrow I'll try to figure out why movies are playing as white rather than the actual content. I really want this player to play all this content as we are searching for a good solid player that does movies and exr/dpx sequences, and so far i really like how well RV handles the image sequences.

Sven if you can send  us a sample, we're happy to investigate as well.  At this point it might be best to open a support ticket.  (You can attach a sample movie to that.)

Any update on the Vista64 support? We are trying to switch everyone over to using RV, but the codec thing is proving to be a "big" issue for some people. Our current platforms are Vista64, OSX 10.5 (10.6 soonish) and Linux64.

    Hey Jared,

RV32 will run on Vista64 and it has support for the Apple Quicktime library.

You can run both RV32 and RV64 on the same system and use RV64 for large image sequences that use lots of RAM and then use RV32 for movie files.

Support for movie formats directly in RV64 on Windows is on our roadmap but not likely to happen soon.

    Cheers,

    Seth

Installed RV 4. Has there been any update in incorporating quicktime playback for RV64 bit? If our client is on MAC OS using quicktimes, will network sync work running RV 32bit on Windows?

    Hi Simon,

This forum post is out of date. We do support QuickTime playback on all platforms in 64-bit RV-4. We no longer support 32-bit RV which means we no longer support 32-bit Apple QuickTime and the components system it incorporates. However our new movie playback plugin does cover avi, mov, and mp4 playback now (with many codecs).

    Thanks,
    Jon
