Correct workflow for using Tickets?

We have started using tickets for our tech groups to handle problems reported by artists on specific shots in the project.

I've set it up, but have some questions regarding proper workflow - I'm finding some issues that I'm sure there's a solution for, but can't figure them out.

1. Is there any way for an assignee to be notified about new ticket assignments? They don't show up in "My Tasks" and there don't appear to be any messages generated - can that be set up? What's the best way to notify someone they've been assigned to a ticket short of them just going to the ticketing page and checking from time to time?

2. How can the person filing the ticket be notified about progress on the ticket? There's no "follow" option; how can the reporter be notified when someone is assigned to the ticket, or the status changes?
