What formats does the upload_thumbnail method accept? Is it only JPEGs?

  The file is processed by ImageMagick after it's uploaded, so any type of file that ImageMagick can process would work ( http://www.imagemagick.org/script/formats.php?ImageMagick=me6omnbg17ikfdffhs4pr2era1 ).  But I would recommend jpg or png files, as they convert the most reliably.
