Transcoder output bandwidth/quality options

(Alan Trombla here, passing on a webinar idea from Jo Yu ...)

In some cases the transcoder output is too low-quality, and I'm sure in others it takes too long to download ;-)   It'd be great to have options, at least on the Site level, possibly per Project, to choose from a variety of quality/bitrate options so that we could tune the transcoder output to our use-case.

Thanks!

Yes absolutely! Was just about to write my own feature request about this. Especially the client review site needs better quality files to look at.

+1 for this. We would also prefer an option like this and even better if its per media upload.

+1 for sure. users should have control of their ingest and posting quality.

+1 pretty please! Current quality is just not good enough for reviewing.

The current compression is HORRIBLE.  UNUSABLE in the client review portion of the site.  Which makes this feature unusable out of the box.

Is this request going to get some love anytime soon? We are still relying on our own custom transcoding options before we upload to SG but its a bit of a pain to maintain that workflow separately so would be good to have these options built into the sg upload.

Thanks for pinging us Sachin. We are looking into this as we evaluate the future direction and features of the transcoding service. Unfortunately, the work is not scheduled at this point.

+1 for higher bitrates for automatic transcodes.

I know that we can do our own DIY transcoding, but this is very much less convenient.

Just checked the default transcoding settings from: https://support.shotgunsoftware.com/hc/en-us/articles/219030418-Do-it-yourself-DIY-transcoding and I think setting the bitrate to 2 Mbit/s is the main problem.

Using the -crf option (available via ffmpeg for h.264 and webm) it is much easier to get a constant perceived quality.
