Changing Out-of-Range colours?

Hey guys.

Any idea if its possible to modify the out of range values in RV? We are using a different colour pipeline that places RGB channels in different ranges. Can out-of-range values also be displayed in false colours via a LUT for example?

cheers

You could make a LUT which does what you want up to a point. It really depends on the color space you have. Can you describe it in more detail?

    Hey Jim.

So basically I'd like to view a Linear EXR file and apply a LUT as you mentioned that would effectively "zebra stripe // clipTest" or produce false colours of regions of the image that are above or below a certain pixel value. ie. highs R-46 G-20 B-16 // lows R 0.002 G 0.004 B .005

The Out-Of-Range effectively does what I am looking for, but I can't seem to change the 0-1 values to something custom.

So I figured a work around for this. Nuke to the rescue. Just created a CMStestPattern node added a clamp node and set my min and max values and set my clamp to RED for anything over and under, generated a CSP file and all works well in RV.

in case anyone else runs into this.

    Hey Shervin,

We of course like to think "RV to the Rescue!".

RV has a scripting utility module with LUT generation functions. I was curious if this would be useful in this case. So I made an RV package that lets you define the max/min and scaling parameters and generate a LUT on the fly. It's a bit rough around the edges but it seems to work.

This stuff of course should be done with a shader, and we'll add that as a feature request. But the LUT might be a useful stopgap and it might be handy for you to adjust the params on the fly.

I'll email it to you to experiment with and if you think it's useful we'll post it.

    Cheers,

    Seth

RV to the rescue indeed!!!! Thanks for this Seth.

Plugged in the package and works pretty well. Useful tool I'd imagine for artists wanting to QC there shots for illegal values inside of RV.

    thanks again.

    cheers
